The current initiation fee has been raised to $25.00. That will provide us with enough starting capital to get our
name registered and begin the permit process.
There will be a $10.00 per sled daily race fee to be paid at the track.
This fee may rise accordingly when we have more information about costs involved. We are trying to keep it as inexpensive
as possible. It appears that our biggest cost will be safety cones or fencing to enclose the track area. We
are looking for donations of these items.
At this time we have formed a board of directors of about a dozen racers who are willing to get involved
and help to set this thing up. Each of these committee members have been assigned one or more tasks to complete and are
working on them now.
It is now January and we have choosen dates and sites for our first four races. We have registered
our club as a tax exempt, non-profit, 501(c)(7) organization with the State of Michigan and the IRS. We
have also completed the permit application process and have received approved permits for the 2 races at Houghton
Lake and for the 2 races at East Twin Lake. Since the first race at Houghton Lake was cancelled we have re-applied for
a replacement date and are waiting approval on that.
As of January, 2005 we have 100 paid members and 4 corporate sponsors. We are getting near capacity.
At some point we may have to stop accepting new members or our race track will become too crowded to be enjoyable.
Please tell all your racing pals about our association and encourage them to join right away. $25.00 is a small
investment considering the amount of money most of us have into our sleds.
If we all stick together, we can make this work. If we don't, you can say goodby to the type of racing we all enjoy,
because the DNR is getting stricter ever year and they are not going to allow us to continue without the proper
permits.
