MICHIGAN LAKE RACERS ASSOCIATION

The Michigan Lake Racers Association is being formed by snowmobile drag racers throughout Michigan. The goal of this organization is to unite the lake racers of Michigan and facilitate the procurement of DNR "Special Event Permits" so we may have a legal venue in which to pursue our great hobby of drag racing snowmobiles.

There are several sanctioned racing venues currently active in Michigan and they all follow some sort of ISR format which includes classes based on displacement and the amount of modifications performed to the machine.  They all have many rules and formalities including tech inspection, fuel testing and mandatory tear-downs. There has also been some talk of future "Bracket Racing". What fun is it racing a pro-stocker against a 1979 Puma?

The objective of our association is to provide a format which allows "Run What You Brung” Grudge Style Racing with no classes or technical rules. You will decide who you race and when you race. You may race as many or as few times as you wish. The only rules that will be enforced will be the use of ice picks or chisels and a few safety related issues. There will be no limitations on modifications.

At this time our membership costs only $25.00 (a very small investment compared to what you have into your sled). This will allow us to compile a membership list, register our club and provide us with the funds required to begin the permit application process. The membership rates may increase as we determine the actual costs involved. i.e.: permit fees, safety fencing and cones, plow fuel, etc. We may also charge a daily fee at the races to help cover costs. You will have to be a member to participate in our races.

This organization is Non-Profit and no one will benefit financially from our endeavors.

We currently plan to pull 4 - 6 permits for the 2004-2005 ice racing season. The races will be held at various lakes throughout Northern Lower Michigan. The dates and locations will be announced as soon as they are determined.
